Reading Slowly Again
Three small habits that help me keep fewer notes and remember better ideas.
2026-06-23
I used to think a good reading session should produce many highlights. The more lines I saved, the more useful the book seemed.
But a long list of highlights often became another thing I never opened again. I am trying a slower method now.
Highlight less
I wait before marking a sentence. If the idea still feels important after the next page, I keep it. This small pause helps me separate surprise from value.
Keep one idea
After reading, I write down one idea in my own words. One clear thought is easier to remember than ten copied sentences. It also shows whether I understood the idea or only liked how it sounded.
Test it in ordinary life
The best notes should return to the real world. I ask whether an idea can change how I plan tomorrow, speak to someone, or spend my attention. If nothing changes, the note may still be interesting, but it is not yet useful.
读完一本书不是终点,真正重要的是它有没有改变第二天的一个小选择。
